SCUM Update: Bicycles, Fatigue, Bedrolls, and Dial Locks

Happy Wednesday everyone! In this update, we have some exciting new features and improvements to share with you. Let's dive in!

Bicycles

Bicycles have made a return to SCUM! Both the city bike and the mountain bike are now available. Similar to motorbikes, bicycles work on the modular vehicles model. However, the main difference is that the bicycle engine is you! So, get ready to pedal away and explore the world of SCUM. But be warned, accumulated fatigue is a new feature that affects all prisoners.

Accumulated Fatigue

Accumulated fatigue represents the gradual wearing off of a character while exposed to strenuous actions. The rate of fatigue depends on the CON attribute. With a full stamina bar spent, Maximum Stamina Reduction (MSR) will increase by 1 Stamina Unit (SU). The accumulated fatigue can never reduce the stamina below the Stamina Reserve (RS).

To rest the fatigue, there are a few methods available. Eating food, consuming energy drinks, drinking hot beverages like coffee, and sleeping are some of the ways to recover stamina. Sleeping will restore 0.2 SU per minute of game time. However, sleeping in beds is the only way to fully recover fatigue. Resting outside of beds, such as lying down on the floor, will regain some fatigue but at a reduced state.

Bedrolls

To address the issue of logging out in the middle of nowhere without a bed, a new item has been introduced - the bedroll. Players can now carry their bedrolls on their backs (using the same slot as the quiver) and rest whenever they need to. When logging out, a timer starts after the logout timer ends. When the timer expires, the bedroll will disappear with the player and reappear with them. However, if someone takes the bedroll in the meantime, the player's character will not count towards the sleeping state while logged out.

Dial Locks

Another new item introduced in this update is the dial lock. It is a lock that works on a combination of three dials. To set it somewhere, players need to take it in their hands and select the set combination action. After that, they can place it on whatever they wish and have a new layer of protection. The person trying to get in will need to guess the combination, and each wrong guess will cost them fame points and health when the lock is combined with zappers.

Other Improvements

In addition to the new features, there are also several bug fixes and adjustments made in this update. For example, all weapons are now detectable by metal detectors, and the pilot hat now provides warmth. The time needed to destroy plants has been reduced, and more items can now be thrown.
