...can hear their voices start to crack and get hoarse. It’s like they’ve been smoking cigarettes for hours!

What happens after recording is complete?

After recording, we get all the VO back and start implementing it into the game. We have a team of editors who go through and clean up the audio, making sure there are no pops or clicks or background noise.

Then we have a team of implementers who take the cleaned-up audio and put it into the game. They make sure the timing is right, that the lip sync is good, and that the audio is playing at the right volume.

Finally, we have a team of QA testers who go through and make sure everything is working as intended. They make sure the audio is playing at the right time, that the subtitles match the audio, and that there are no bugs or glitches.

That sounds like a lot of work! How long does the entire process take?

It takes months! We start casting and preparing scripts about six months before a release. Then we record for about a month, and it takes another month or two to implement everything.

It’s a lot of work, but it’s also a lot of fun. We get to work with some amazing actors and bring the characters of Tamriel to life. It’s a real privilege.

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us, Becky!
